Terms of Use

By downloading, installing, or using ToneScribe (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App. These terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Rahul Singh, the independent developer of ToneScribe (“we”, “us”, “our”).

ToneScribe is distributed via the Apple App Store. These Terms of Use are concluded between you and Rahul Singh only — not with Apple Inc. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the App or its content. In the event of any failure by the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if applicable); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App or your possession or use of it.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and the Apple App Store Terms of Service.

ToneScribe is a private, local-first iOS voice notes app. It allows you to record your voice, transcribe it on-device, and organise your notes. All transcription processing happens on your device — no account is required and no data is sent to any server. The App is available exclusively on iOS via the Apple App Store.

The free version of ToneScribe allows up to 1,000 transcribed words per week, resetting every Monday. All app features are accessible within this limit. We reserve the right to adjust this limit in future versions of the App with reasonable advance notice.

The App offers paid options available through Apple’s in-app purchase system:

• 1-Year Pass: a non-renewing purchase that grants unlimited transcription for one year from the date of purchase. It does not auto-renew — access expires one year after purchase and must be repurchased to extend.
• Lifetime: a one-time, non-consumable purchase that grants unlimited access permanently.

All purchases are processed and governed by Apple. By making a purchase, you also agree to Apple’s App Store Terms of Service.

All purchases are final. We do not issue refunds directly. Refund requests must be submitted to Apple in accordance with Apple’s standard refund policy via their Report a Problem page. We have no ability to issue refunds outside of Apple’s process.

If you reinstall the App or install it on a new device, you can restore previous purchases using the “Restore Purchases” function within the App. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID.

• You retain full ownership of all voice recordings, transcriptions, notes, snippets, and dictionary entries you create in the App.
• All your content is stored locally on your device. We do not access, process, or store your recordings or notes on any server.
• You are solely responsible for backing up your data. We recommend enabling iCloud Backup in iOS Settings if you wish to preserve your content.
• You are responsible for the legality of what you record. You must obtain the consent of all parties before recording conversations where required by applicable law.

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws
• Record or transcribe conversations without the knowledge or consent of all parties where required by law
• Use the App to store or distribute harmful, misleading, or abusive content
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the App
• Attempt to circumvent or tamper with the App’s purchase verification or feature gating
• Use the App in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its functionality

The App, including its design, code, graphics, and on-device transcription engine, is owned by Rahul Singh or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any rights to our intellectual property beyond the limited licence in Section 3. Your use of ToneScribe is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. In summary: we collect nothing server-side, process nothing in the cloud, and your data never leaves your device.

The App uses FluidAudio’s Parakeet speech recognition engine for on-device transcription. This component runs entirely on your device. Use of the App is also subject to Apple’s standard terms and policies.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that transcriptions will be perfectly accurate, that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that defects will be corrected.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Rahul Singh shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including consumer protection rights.

We may update or discontinue the App at any time. We may also terminate or suspend your licence if you breach these Terms. Since all data is stored locally on your device, deleting the App will permanently remove all your notes and recordings. We are not liable for any data loss resulting from App deletion or device failure. Sections 9, 11, 14, 15, and 17 survive termination.

These Terms are governed by the laws of West Bengal, India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of West Bengal, India. If you are an EU consumer, you may also be entitled to bring proceedings in your country of residence under applicable EU consumer protection law.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
