Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 15, 2026
1. Who We Are
ToneScribe (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is developed and operated by Rahul Singh, an independent developer based in West Bengal, India. For the purposes of applicable privacy law, Rahul Singh is the data controller in respect of any personal data processed in connection with this app. You can contact us at rahulsi1612@gmail.com.
2. Our Core Principle
ToneScribe is designed to work entirely on your device. We do not operate servers that receive, store, or process your personal content. Everything you record, transcribe, write, or save stays on your iPhone. This is not a marketing claim — it is an architectural fact. There is no server to send your data to.
3. What Data We Process and Why
The following table summarises all data processing that occurs in connection with your use of ToneScribe:
| Data | Where it lives | Purpose | Lawful basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Voice audio | On-device only, never stored as a file | Real-time transcription | Contract |
| Transcriptions, notes, snippets, dictionary entries | Local database on your device | Core app functionality | Contract |
| Weekly word count | Local device storage | Enforcing the free tier limit | Contract |
| Purchase status | Apple StoreKit / your device | Unlocking paid features | Contract |
| Support emails | Our email inbox (only when you contact us) | Responding to your request | Legitimate interest |
We do not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, or any other personal data as part of normal app usage.
4. Microphone Access
ToneScribe requests microphone permission to transcribe your speech. Audio is captured and processed entirely on your device using an on-device speech recognition engine. Your audio is never recorded to a file, uploaded, or transmitted to us or any third party. Once transcription is complete, the audio is discarded immediately.
5. Keyboard Extension and Full Access
ToneScribe includes an optional keyboard extension. When you enable it, iOS will ask whether to grant “Full Access.” We request this solely to allow the keyboard to communicate with the main app — specifically to share your Dictionary and Snippets via a local App Group stored on your device. We do not log keystrokes, capture text typed in other apps, or send any keyboard data to external servers. Everything remains on your device at all times.
6. Data Storage and Retention
All your content — recordings, transcriptions, notes, snippets, and dictionary entries — is stored locally on your device. You control it entirely. You can delete individual items at any time within the app, or uninstall the app to remove all data. We hold no copy of any of it. Your data is subject to your device’s own security and backup settings (e.g. iCloud Backup, if enabled by you in iOS Settings).
7. Purchases
In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We do not receive, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID. Apple’s privacy policy governs the payment transaction. Purchase status is verified on-device through Apple’s StoreKit framework.
8. Support Communications
If you contact us via the in-app “Contact Support” feature, your message is sent directly from your device’s mail client to our support email. We receive your email address and the content of your message. We use this information only to respond to your request. We do not use it for marketing and do not share it with third parties. We retain support emails for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your request.
9. Analytics and Tracking
We use no analytics tools, crash reporters, advertising SDKs, or any third-party tracking software. We have no visibility into how you use the app.
10. Data Sharing and Selling
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party — ever.
11. Data Security
Because all data remains on your device, it is protected by your iPhone’s built-in security, including device encryption and Face ID or passcode protection. We encourage you to keep your iOS software up to date. For support emails, we use standard email infrastructure protected by industry-standard security measures.
12. Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Access all your data directly within the app at any time
- Delete any or all of your data from within the app
- Export your transcriptions by copying or sharing them from within the app
If you are in the EEA or UK (GDPR), you additionally have the right to:
- Rectification of inaccurate personal data
- Restriction of processing
- Data portability
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (a list is available at edpb.europa.eu)
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to:
- Know what personal data we collect (see Section 3 above)
- Delete personal data we hold about you (support emails — contact us and we will comply)
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your data (we do not sell or share it)
- Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
Because we hold no personal data on our servers, most of these rights are exercised directly within the app. For anything we do hold (support emails), contact us at rahulsi1612@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
13. Children’s Privacy
ToneScribe is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
14. International Users
ToneScribe is available globally. Because we do not operate servers, no personal data is transferred internationally as part of normal app use. Support emails are stored in standard email infrastructure and may be processed across jurisdictions consistent with applicable law.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you via an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
16. Contact Us
For any privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at rahulsi1612@gmail.com. EEA and UK users may also contact their national data protection authority.
